Hacks for Rainy Days on Your Disney Trip
It’s going to rain in Disney, so make the best of it!
If you’re traveling to Orlando, unfortunately there’s a strong chance you’ll experience rain at some point during your Disney trip. The good news is that the rain typically passes after an hour and there’s many ways to still enjoy your day despite the weather.
Here’s how we conquer rainy theme park days:
Pack a poncho for every member of your family. I pack my rain jacket which folds down really small into my park bag or even a compact umbrella.
Most of our family members would rather take a poncho that they can hold onto for the duration of the trip. If traveling with a stroller, be sure to bring or purchase a rain cover to make sure none of your belongings get wet.
When the forecast calls for rain most of the day, I skip sneakers and opt for my chacos. I’ve recently seen some snazzy little waterproof rain shoe covers. I haven’t tried these out for myself yet, but I plan on purchasing them for our trip this fall… hello, hurricane season!
Shop til you drop (or til the rain stops!) Use the rainy time slot to check-out Disney souvenirs and merchandise. We really love to shop Disney merch and use our time wisely, saving our shopping for when the weather goes downhill. There’s a number of places to peruse at each theme park, but you can easily search in the My Disney Experience App.

Here’s your chance to experience indoor rides and attractions — Magic Kingdom is a great park to be at when it rains since there’s so many indoor rides & shows. Look for indoor attractions — our favorites are Carousel of Progress, Haunted Mansion, It’s a Small World & Mickey’s PhilharMagic. EPCOT also has a ton of indoor attractions, including Soarin’ Around the World, Spaceship Earth, and Seas with Nemo and Friends. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, we’ll usually catch a show like the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration or we’ll go into the Star Wars Launch Bay to meet all of the characters. And at Animal Kingdom we’ll head to the Finding Nemo stage show or Festival of the Lion King.
Bad weather is a great excuse to eat. Snag last minute dining reservations if you know rain is coming or take cover at one of the many indoor quick service options and get a meal or a tasty Disney treat. My favorite places to hunker down in the rain are ABC Commissary in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Cosmic Rays or Columbia Harborhouse in Magic Kingdom.
